A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "At 8.30am on Sunday (May 1), Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service reported they were attending a fire at a flat in Wortley Close, Coalville.

"Officers attended, along with colleagues from the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

"A woman who was inside the property was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, but later died.

"Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

"Identification of the deceased is a matter for HM Coroner."

As a result, Coalville Fire Station is offering home safety checks this week.
