Coalville Town missed out on the chance to win promotion to the Vanarama National League North as they lost 2-0 at Peterborough Sports in the play-off final.

But the Ravens had two penalties saved in the closing stages, with Sports goalkeeper Peter Crook twice denying Billy Kee to make sure the Cambridgeshire side won through.

The Southern League website reports the match was played In front of a record-breaking crowd of 1,895 at the Bee Arena.

Peterborough took only 12 minutes to open the scoring when striker Mark Jones converted Dion Sembie-Ferris` cross.

Coalville came more into the game after falling behind and the dangerous Tyrell Waite was causing Sports` some problems.

A Luke Warner-Eley slip allowed Coalville's Billy Kee to go close to equalising five minutes before the break - and then Tom McGlinchey's effort struck the top of the crossbar.

So, the home side went into the interval a goal to the good, and after a relatively quiet start to the second period, the home crowd erupted when Josh McCammon's deflected shot beat Coalville `keeper Tiernan Brooks following a corner.

But on 74 minutes, the visitors had a great opportunity to get back into the game when they were awarded a penalty after centre-back Richard Jones was adjudged to have handled.

However, the normally reliable Kee's spot-kick was flicked wide by home 'keeper Crook's foot.

Remarkably, six minutes from time, the referee pointed to the spot in Coalville`s favour yet again after McGlinchey had been fouled in the box.

But Crook again came to the Turbines` rescue with another fine save to deny Kee once more.

And, despite six minutes of stoppage time, Sports held on to win.
