Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre is again in line for a prestigious national honour after being selected as a finalist in the ukactive Awards.

The centre has been shortlisted in the 'Regional Club/Centre of the Year – Midlands' category and will also be considered for the 'National Club/Centre of the Year' award.

It is the second successive year that Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre, run by Everyone Active on behalf of North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC), has been shortlisted for the regional award.

The site's state-of-the-art facilities include a 110-station gym, two swimming pools, three group exercise studios, a Clip 'n Climb, three squash courts, an eight-court sports hall, sauna, steam room and spa pool, as well as a café and adventure trail.

The ukactive Awards celebrate the best of the physical activity sector and are designed to recognise excellence and innovation across health, wellbeing and fitness.

A not-for-profit body, ukactive comprises members and partners from across the active lifestyle sector.

Finalists will now go through to the next stage of the judging process where they will undergo further assessments including a mystery shop and digital review.

The regional winners and national champion will be announced at a gala dinner at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on Thursday, October 3.

Duncan Gibb, Everyone Active's contract manager, said: "It's a huge honour to be shortlisted for the ukactive Awards and this reflects the hard work and dedication the site team has put in over the past year. They have done a fantastic job.

"To be selected as a finalist is an achievement in itself and we'd like to thank all of our members for their ongoing support. We look forward to October's awards ceremony and in the meantime will continue to focus on getting the local community active."

Councillor Michael Wyatt, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change at NWLDC, said: "Being shortlisted for the ukactive Awards for the second year in a row is a remarkable achievement for Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre.

"This recognition highlights the dedication of our staff and the quality of our facilities, which continue to serve and inspire our community.

"We are excited about the upcoming awards and proud of the positive impact our leisure centre has on local residents."
