A force spokesperson said: "Police were called to Tickow Lane just before 1.20am following a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a black and red Honda CBF 125 motorcycle.
"It occurred between the junctions of Anson Road and Buttercup Lane.
"The rider – an 18-year-old man – was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. A road closure that was put in place has since been lifted."
PC Suki Sahota, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said: "Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of the collision are continuing and I'd urge anyone who can help to contact police.
"I'm particularly keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area early this morning and who has a dashcam in their vehicle or who saw the collision occur. I'd also ask anyone who saw the motorcycle beforehand to come forward."
