The Love Your Neighbourhood Weekend of Action is taking place this weekend in North West Leicestershire.

Communities are being urged to come together to Love Your Neighbourhoods during Saturday and Sunday and take the opportunity to make impactful environmental improvements to the neighbourhoods where you live.

It is hoped the event will help communities build greener, safer, healthier, more inclusive neighbourhoods.

Community groups, tenants associations, parish and town councils, uniformed groups, PTAs plus many more can get involved by organising a community event in your neighbourhoods.

This could be anything you can think of which has an impact on your environment and gets the community involved. Here are some examples:

  • Organising a litter picking event in the community
  • Planting in shared spaces
  • Preparing for wildflowers
  • Recycling initiatives
  • Installing communal composting bins
  • Helping elderly neighbours with their gardens
  • Holding recycling events
  • Installing hanging baskets to community buildings.

Individuals can get involved and register their pledge by working on their own property:

  • Take accumulated rubbish to the tip from the front or rear of property
  • Trim hedges that have encroached on pathways
  • Gardening
  • Litter pick your street
  • Help a neighbour out
