A children's play area in Heather has been closed after the parish council said 'excrement' was smeared on a slide.

Heather Parish Council has called the act 'disgusting and dangerous' after it was discovered at the Belcher Close Play Area.

It has now been closed so that a deep clean of the equipment can be arranged.

It is thought the discovery was made earlier in the week although some social media comments suggest it may just be chocolate.

The play area was only reopened last month following coronavirus restrictions.

A message on the parish council's website explains the situation to village residents.

It reads: "Please be aware that the Belcher Close Play Area has been closed until the Parish Council can arrange for a deep clean of the equipment.

"This is necessary BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS SMEARED EXCREMENT ON THE SLIDE. Can you believe that anyone would do something so disgusting?

"Please can anyone who lives around the area be extra vigilant and report anyone acting suspiciously to the Parish Council or the Police."

Heather Parish Council clerk Jan Shepherd told Coalville Nub News that the situation is being addressed and that the equipment is not to be used.

She said: "We've put the wheels in motion on this as health and hygiene is obviously a priority for everyone at the moment."
