Being able to deal with accidents and incidents with confidence is a skill we will all need at one time or other.

First Aid is not taught at school, but it is one of those key skills.

And on Saturday evening a physically distanced group gathered to undertake their training on a course organised by Coalville's THINK FC working with Coalville C.A.N.

Some had never done it before and others were refreshing from a course they had had over 20 years ago.

From the youngest attendee in their early 20s to the oldest at over 65 everyone passed.

Number 22 in Hotel Street provided space that enabled the socially distanced course to happen.

"They make it look easy but there is the constant cleaning, attention to detail and keeping up with the latest guidance that means everyone can feel safe and join in at Number 22," said Deana Wildgoose who organised the session.

Katie Hateley from Fox Medics delivered her first training session since lockdown to 10 local people as part of a project funded by Futures, the European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency.

"It was a brilliant course delivered with physical distancing, yet professional and fun to attend. First Aid is an important skill, and now I'm fully updated and I feel more able to deal with any incidents as they arise," said one participant.

"Katie makes the certificated adult first aid course entertaining, informative and memorable, everyone went away with a spring in their step."

Many of the group are local people and part of the Coalville C.A.N. group - people looking to come together in Coalville and with others from the local Community take over spaces and places that are locally valued and help people set up their own enterprises and projects that they are interested in.

They shared some of the ideas and plans with Katie.

Katie said on Facebook later: "It was a pleasure teaching you all. It was great to learn about some of the exciting plans, passion is certainly flowing within the group which will be noticed by many. I'm sure you'll be a total inspiration to your community."
