Coalville Crossfit facility is the first of its kind in North West Leicestershire - and looking for new members
Crossfit Coalville has been launched as the first fitness facility of its type in North West Leicestershire - and anyone can get involved.
The membership is based at the Stealth Gym at Brunel Way on the Stephenson Industrial Estate - and people from all over the district are being encouraged to take part in Crossfit Coalville which is now a Coalville Nub News sponsor.
Crossfit is described as the sport of fitness and sees people competing against one another.
But you do not have to be a sportsperson to take part - all contests are tailored depending on age and fitness levels.
It means a teenager could take on someone in their 50s and, with adjustments in place, it would be on level terms.
Owner Craig Smith explained more and said: "It allows everyone to compete against one another.
"Each class we deliver is called a WOD - Workout of the Day.
"But it's also a global thing, there's over 10,000 people in Europe competing in Crossfit and in the USA, it's absolutely huge.
"The Crossfit Games attracts over a week, nearly 200,000 spectators.
"The gyms are called 'Boxes' and we're the first Box in North West Leicestershire.
"We're really excited about that.
"Crossfit was officially launched in March after the last lockdown, although we had a trial last year in between lockdowns."
Craig says that, despite the world popularity of Crossfit, the Coalville Box is going to centre around the local community.
"Now we're now looking at taking on new members for it," he said.
"This is very much about the community. That's what it's built upon, everyone interacts with one another, you're working as a team, even though you're working against each another.
"You're always trying to beat your previous score and set personal bests.
"We have a range of ages - our youngest member is 17 and our oldest is 58 - and they all compete in the same room, there's no distinction at all.
"And it's varied, you're never doing the same thing week after week, there's always a good mix of disciplines."
Craig says Crossfit gives people a competitive edge and something to aim for, rather than going to a gym and working on your own set programme.
"You have a qualified coach there with you as well, it's only small groups - a maximum of 12," he said.
"The coach will explain the WOD, go through a practice session, then the WOD is about 20 minutes of high intensity.
"We have a radius of about seven miles, which includes Ashby, Ibstock and Markfield.
"A few weeks ago, we had Coalville Town players down here for a session - and we absolutely ragged them!
"That's a good example, we had professional athletes who are very fit, and they were lying on the floor afterwards."
Stealth is located at Unit 9, Brunel Way, Stephenson Industrial Estate, Coalville, LE67 3HF, Phone: 07590 061455; Email: [email protected].
Nub News CEO, Karl Hancock, said: "Coalville Crossfit is an ideal partner to work with because, like Nub News, the local community is at the heart of what it does.
"Without companies like Coalville Crossfit, we wouldn't be able to survive. This sponsorship enables us to provide news and what's on listings without any clickbait.
"We also provide classifieds, property, jobs and live travel."
Coalville Nub News is unique in that it lets you self-publish using the "Nub It" buttons found on the home page for news and what's on page for event listings. If you would like more information email the editor, [email protected].
