A 22-year-old man who was charged with the stabbing of two men in Coalville last year, has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Liam Carter, of no fixed abode, was arrested on June 13 after the men were seriously injured in Long Lane, close to a supermarket, shortly after 8.30pm.

The BBC website reports that he was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on April 5 after pleading guilty to an offence of possessing an offensive weapon.

Carter was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

At the time, Carter had also been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Police said one of the injured men had since been discharged from hospital in the days following the incident, while the other remained in a serious but stable condition.
