Coalville Town striker Billy Kee says the club has given him a 'life with football' again.
The former Burton Albion and Accrington Stanley forward told BBC's football website how the Ravens asked him to play for them after he retired from the professional game.
And he says 20 or so Accrington fans are coming to watch him play for Coalville next month.
Kee spoke openly earlier this year about leaving football behind in January at the age of 29 because of struggles with depression, anxiety and bulimia.
He is now rebuilding his career as a bricklayer - but re-signed for Coalville again for this season when non-League football resumed again following the Covid-19 lockdown.
Kee told the BBC: "They said 'come and play, no pressure, just enjoy it'. I hadn't done any training and they started me the first game.
"It's a good family club and my wife and kids come to games.
"It's given me a life again with football. It fits in with my work schedule and I enjoy it.
"Next month there's about 20 Accrington fans coming down to watch. From experience I know they'll be really loud - Coalville's fans won't know what's hit them."
Kee says in the interview that he continues to live with depression, anxiety and bulimia, but is planning for the future.
He said: "I'm happier than I've been for as long as I can remember. My mum, dad and wife all say I am a different person," he says.
Asked where he sees himself 10 years from now, he added: "Building my own house for my family and being happy in it."
