North West Leicestershire District Council set to give green light to new twin-bin recycling system this month

North West Leicestershire District Council is set to recommend the introduction of the new twin-bin recycling container system at a Cabinet meeting later this month.
Last month's meeting of the council's Community Scrutiny Committee put forward the proposal after last year's survey on the issue attracted almost 20,000 responses.
The current system of wheelie-bins, bags and boxes are set to be replaced.
If the new plan gets the go-ahead at the Cabinet meeting in Coalville on April 22, there will basically be two bins.
One will have cardboard and paper, the other will have tins, cans, glass and all plastics
That means all red boxes, blue bags and yellow bags will no longer be required.
The Cabinet is also recommending awarding the contract for 19 waste collection vehicles at an approximate cost of £4.7million.
Also, £1.6million is set to be added to the capital programme for the provision of new recycling containers.

A contract for the delivery of new recycling containers and the collection of existing containers is also recommended at a cost of £235,000.
The award of a contract for project management services for up to three years to the value of £196,500 is also on the list of recommendations.
There will also be a contract awarded for the delivery of leaflets and letters to local homes up to the values of £116,800.
Last month, Cllr Michael Wyatt told councillors: "It make it much easier for our residents to recycle, and it will help to reduce dramatically the littering of our streets, which, everyone I have spoken to, constantly highlights.
"It will cost more than the current system. But we must bear in mind that keeping the income from our recycling will no longer be viable when the Deposit Return scheme runs out.
"Our new recycling scheme will be leading the way in Leicestershire as other councils with co-mingled bins will have to move to the separation of their waste.
"I firmly believe now is the time to crack on with implementing the new recycling scheme being proposed so we can finally deliver a cleaner and greener system, which I am sure the vast majority of residents will welcome."
