A full report on the Thringstone & Whitwick People Zone is to be released soon following a survey of local organsations.

Work is underway to put ideas together to move forward, looking to set up activities that people in the villages want to see and would support.

Launched in August last year at a family fun day at Thringstone Members' Club, The People Zone is an initiative that is designed to build on the positivity and skills of communities across Leicestershire.

By following an Asset Based Community Development approach, the People Zone initiative aims to maintain a positive focus on the area via the enhancement of local assets and utilising residents' and workers' passions for further developing their communities.

The overall hope is to see an improvement in the quality of life and a reduction in crime, to make these communities stronger, safer and more cohesive for everyone.

The priority themes of the People Zone revolves around health and wellbeing, infrastructure and services, self-care and community cohesion/support and education, and to this end a survey was prepared and sent out to organisations to distribute to their groups by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. Now the surveys have been returned, and a full report will be released shortly.

A steering group has been set up to meet on a regular basis, and the organisers are looking for other people who might want to be involved.

Whitwick and Thringstone have some excellent venues between them near Coalville, as well as being close to stunning woodland areas such Holly Hayes Woods, Cademan Woods and Gracedieu Woods.

And it is hoped that people will want to see these assets utilised to their fullest potential in the future by working with the People Zone, and its partners in the health, crime and community sectors.
