Police launch investigation into Coalville collision which left man in 80s in 'life-threatening' condition

Leicestershire Police say they are carrying out a 'thorough investigation' into Monday's traffic collision in Coalville - which left an elderly driver with life-threatening injuries.

Three vehicles were involved in the incident which happened on Monday at the junction of Broom Leys Road and Stephenson Road.

A man in his 80s remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Now, officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the collision which occurred at 10.35am.

The collision involved a silver Ford transit van, a black Ford Ecosport and a white Vauxhall Astra.

The driver of the Ecosport was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and currently remains in a critical condition.

Police have confirmed that no-one else was injured, and no arrests have been made at this stage.

Leicestershire Police Constable Madeleine Hayes, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A thorough investigation will be carried out to establish exactly what occurred on Monday morning.

"To assist us, we are asking for anyone who saw the collision or the vehicles prior to the incident, or was driving in the area and thinks they may have captured something on their dashcam to make contact."

There was a SECOND collision in Coalville the next day at John Cooper Way in Coalville. It involved two cars, and Leicestershire Fire & Rescue said no persons were trapped.

It happened just after mid-day but it is understood one person was taken to hospital.
