Plans to build five assisted living flats in Hugglescote have been submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council.

The proposal, at 2-4 Grange Road, would involve the part demolition of an existing building and the construction of a two storey extension.

A management plan put before the council says that the units would be leased to Lets for Life, a Cheshire-based company which says it believes in there being more choice in quality housing for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and autism.

The management plan says: "The proposal is to lease the units to a Registered Provider - Lets for Life - for the purpose of Supported Living.

"The tenants occupying the property will be all be working-age adults who have diagnosed learning disabilities and/or autism and be in receipt of a care package to assist with their day to day living – provided by a separate Support Provider commissioned by the Local Authority.

"In addition to the commercial lease agreement, an onsite management agreement will be agreed with the Registered Provider which will outline exactly what party will be responsible for in relation to the management of the property.

"Site Management Comprehensive training will be given in first aid, fire management and major incident management to all employees in addition to other safety training as required.

"To maintain a good quality living environment, all communal areas of the building including the common rooms will be cleaned regularly and monitored via CCTV.

"The residents are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their rooms and this is ensured through a programme of flat inspections and advice from members of staff.

"The development will be fully compliant with local housing requirements.

"The development of this community helps in creating a sense of home, a critical element in the current supportive living market.

"The total tenant experience of social life and development of personal independence is assisted greatly with the ability to meet and spend time together in a variety of locations and spaces."
