A prize-winning hairdresser has teamed up with her long-time friend to open a new barber shop in Coalville town centre.

The Gents Lounge is in Jackson Street took only a month to get fitted out - and opened its doors to the public last week.

Natasha Rowbotham and Fleur Palmer have both been in the industry for around 13 years, starting out as apprentices, and are running the business.

Fleur has worked at this shop for a decade - and while Natasha has been working in Ashby for the last five years, she started in this barbers.

It means the duo have a major connection with the area - and will be offering traditional wet shaves, skin fades, facials, waxing and hopi ear candles, as well as haircuts.

Natasha told Coalville Nub News: "We worked together for five years and then Fleur took over the shop on her own.

"I'd been working in Ashby and studied to get my certificates at the same time.

"I came third in the regional barber of the year competition last year as part of the Hair and Beauty awards. You have to send documents about the haircuts you've done, your knowledge about products. I'll be putting my awards up in the shop.

"We've both got customers from before, so there's already a number of regulars here. We're more of a team now.

"It happened when we were out having dinner and said: 'Let's do it'. I left my job three weeks ago and here we are.

"We also do women's cuts as well as men's, but we've got the lot. We have a book-ins and walk-ins, we're trying to offer both in the same place, the best of both worlds.

"There's a long list of things you can have done here, from wet shaves to hopi ear candles."

The pair are making the most of the small - but cosy - space to bring their business to the people of Coalville and beyond.

Fleur added: "The shop itself hasn't changed, but it's been totally refurbished inside.

"We managed to get it done in four weeks. My dad did most of it, he's a French polisher.

"It used to be called Morgan's. But I took it over and had it for four years when it was called Fleur's Barbers.

"Then myself and Natasha got together to relaunch it. We should've done this years ago to be honest."
