Ellistown company Quarry Plant and Industry (QPI) is moving to a purpose-built new headquarters after plans were approved.

The conveyor belting and rollers supplier has now been given the go-ahead to create a new 73,194 sq ft base at the former Heather Brickworks in Mill Lane, reports Insidermedia.com Insider Media

North West Leicestershire District Council approved the plans which will see the number of employees at the site leap from 40 to 175.

The QPI website says: "QPI is a leading supplier of conveyor belting and rollers based in the UK.

"With headquarters in Leicestershire England, QPI is within easy reach of almost any destination in the UK.

"Established in 1995 we have seen sales grow exponentially over the years. We believe the reason for our continued growth is due to our commitment to our customers who deserve the highest quality products, superior customer service and because we have invested many years sourcing the right products, all of which exceed British Standards and are competitively priced."

A document submitted to the Council said: "The development proposals are intended to meet QPI's urgent need for new consolidated premises within the region and will also deliver a range of new employment opportunities and supporting infrastructure.

"QPI have an urgent requirement to relocate and consolidate their business onto a single managed site.

"The existing premises at Ellistown are cramped, outdated and have no room for expansion. Further, while they serve a purpose, the location and quality of the surroundings, do not present the modern, high tech image, that is associated with the QPI brand.

"QPI own the application site at Heather, and as such are able to fully control and meet their business needs without the need to relocate to a more cost-effective location.

"At the same time, QPI do not require the whole of the site for their own purposes and are happy to collocate with other employers. They have identified a considerable local demand for starter and scale-up employment units, to support local economic growth.

"They recognise the self-evident suitability of this 100-year-old, brownfield, employment site, to an ongoing job creation and economic development opportunity."

A North West Leicestershire District Council statement added: "The proposal would not have any significantly detrimental impacts to the character and appearance of the visual landscape or streetscape, highway safety, residential amenity, ecology, landscaping and contaminated land, nor would the proposal exacerbate any localised flooding impact.

"There are no other relevant material planning considerations that indicate outline planning permission should not be granted and consequently the proposal is deemed to comply with the relevant policies of the adopted Local Plan, the council's adopted Good Design SPD and the advice within the NPPF."
