Cases of coronavirus in North West Leicestershire have dropped according to the latest figures released on Monday afternoon.

The rate dropped slightly to 4.9, from 6.9 the week before.

Cases wise, last week saw five new confirmed, there were seven in the seven days before July 23.

The figures for this region are: North West Leicestershire – Seven days before July 30: 4.9 cases per 100,000 people and 5 new confirmed cases. Week before July 23: 6.9 cases per 100,000, 7 confirmed cases.

But figures have revealed one Leicestershire area has a higher seven-day infection rate than Manchester – just days after stricter measures were introduced in the North West.

Melton – which saw cases jump last week, now ranks eighth in the UK list, coming in directly below Trafford – one of the areas said to be the reason new restrictions were introduced up north.

The Leicestershire borough now has a rate of 37.2 cases per 100,000 people, up from 17.6 cases per 100,000 last week.

In real terms, the area saw 19 new cases confirmed in the seven days before July 30. In the week before July 23, it saw just nine.

The increase has propelled it above Oadby and Wigston, which until Saturday was in local lockdown due to high cases and infection rates.

The rate there has plummeted to 12.3 cases per 100,000 with just seven new cases confirmed in the week before July 30.

In the previous week the seven-day infection rate was 42.1 cases per 100,000 and there were 24 cases confirmed.

Leicester itself still has the highest rate in the area at 52.6 cases per 100,000 but it is a marked improvement on the week before when the rate was 66.2.

In terms of confirmed cases – the area saw 187 added to its overall toll last week, in the week before 235 cases were confirmed.

Increases were recorded in Charnwood and Hinckley and Bosworth.

Charnwood's seven-day rate went up to 12.0 per 100,000 from last week's 7.1. Some 22 cases were confirmed in the seven days up to July 30, in comparison to 13 the week before.

Hinckley and Bosworth's rate jumped to 8.0 from just 1.8 in the previous week.

Cases increased also with nine confirmed last week, just two were added to the area's toll in the week before. The authority now sits just under Rossendale, another area where stricter measures were introduced on Thursday.

Elsewhere Blaby and Harborough, along with North West Leicestershire, saw rates drop.

Data up until July 30 shows Blaby as having 4.0 cases per 100,000 – the lowest in the county. In the previous week, it was 9.0. Just four cases were added last week, there were nine in the week prior.

Four new cases were added to Harborough's total last week, there were seven the week before. Translated into seven-day rate it means the district's is now 4.3 cases per 100,000, last week it was 7.6.

The data in full shows the seven-day rate per 100,000 for the week before July 30, with confirmed cases in brackets. The second set of numbers show the same, but for the week up until July 23.
