North West Leicestershire District Council says it is considering plans to introduce charges for extra garden waste collection bins this Spring.

The idea is part of the council's budget consultation, which is currently open.

Councillors will vote on the budget at Full Council in February.

Last March, the council announced charges for second garden waste bins might come into effect - potentially affecting 22,000 households.

Coalville homes to be charged for second garden waste bin.

Now it could happen in April, after a trial period last year, and, if it goes ahead, the scheme would see homes applying for a second garden waste bin charged £45 a year for the service – the first bin would still be provided and emptied free of charge.

North West Leicestershire District Council said: "We're planning to keep garden waste collection free for a single bin, but we're looking to introduce a charge for each additional bin.

"From April 2022, we plan to charge £45 a year for second or third (or fourth) garden waste bins."

The move comes under the council's General Fund & Special Expenses - and other plans include: Continuing the freeze of its share of Council Tax for the 13h year running; and investing £11.6 million in projects to support the regeneration of Coalville.
