A Coalville opticians is celebrating the long service of store director, Shailan Ruparelia.

Originally a locum optician, until he joined the Specsavers store as a partner in 1994, Shailan has been an integral part of the business in the Belvoir Shopping Centre since it first opened in December that year.

During his time as store director, Shailan has developed strong working relationships with many customers and even carries out eye examinations for up to five generations of one family.

He said: "I feel incredibly privileged to have been at the helm of the Coalville store since the very beginning.

"I still can't believe how quickly it's flown by; I feel like it was only yesterday when we first opened our doors to the local community."

Shailan has seen many changes throughout the years, particularly software updates which make referrals and liaisons with hospitals even more efficient.

He added: "I've had the pleasure of interacting with so many people throughout the years.

"Some of the children I used to see are now bringing their own families in for their eye examinations.

"Most of all, I'm proud to be part of such an excellent team. We've always had a family atmosphere in-store and I'm pleased that we continue to support our colleagues and welcome our customers in a friendly and professional manner.

"I still feel like I learn something new every day. It's been a pleasure directing the store for the last three decades, and I'm looking forward to many more successful years to come."
