Year 4 pupils from Broom Leys Primary School have collaborated with the Leicester Comedy Festival, the UK Kids' Festival and comedic poet Rob Gee on 'The Completely Made-up History of Coalville'.

This is an interactive walking trail that is now live and runs until February 23.

The project encouraged the Coalville schoolchildren to think creatively and invent quirky, alternative stories about the history of local landmarks around the town, including Century Theatre, Snibston Mine and The Clock Tower.

The pupils' contribution to the festival attracted coverage on BBC East Midlands

These stories were then edited together to create an interactive tour which local residents are now able to follow on an app.

With the trail having captured the interest of the BBC's Politics East Midlands show, the children were recently joined by journalist Geeta Pendese, and Chris Butler, a Producer at Leicester Comedy Festival, on the tour - where pupils shared a teaser of some of their imaginative stories with a television audience.

Headteacher Robert Prior said: "This project has been a brilliant opportunity for our Year 4 pupils to showcase their creativity and imagination.

"The children have not only learned more about Coalville's unique history but also developed their creative writing skills in a fun and engaging way.

"It's wonderful to see their unique stories come to life and be shared with the wider community."

To access the tour, users must download the smartphone app GoJauntly and search for 'The Made-up History of Coalville'.
