Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for North West Leicestershire has repeated her call for Andrew Bridgen to resign after the results of Thursday's by-elections.

Of the three seats, Labour took Selby and and Ainsty from the Conservatives, who held Uxbridge by a slender majority after Boris Johnson's departure.

In Somerton and Frome, the Conservatives lost out to the Liberal Democrats.

County Councillor Amanda Hack, who will be standing for Labour in North West Leicestershire at the next General Election, says the constituency should go to the polls earlier.

She remains convinced that Mr Bridgen should stand down as an MP after been thrown out of the Conservative Party and joining Laurence Fox's Reclaim Party.

Cllr Hack said: "The Conservatives lost two safe seats and hung on to the third by a whisker.

"Real votes in real ballot boxes confirmed what the opinion polls have been saying for months. 

"People have had enough of Conservative government. 

"Tactical voting is making a big difference. People are looking carefully for the best way of removing their Tory MP.

"This will boost Labour's chances in North West Leicestershire, where we've always come first or second."

While North West Leicestershire does not currently have a Conservative MP, Cllr Hack believes Labour can use the current climate to win back a seat they last took in 2005.

Since 1983, the constituency has been an indicator of who moves in or stays in No10 as the poll winner has represented the governing party.

North West Leicestershire Conservatives have yet to name their candidate for the next election, but recently named a new team of officers with the aim of doing so.

Cllr Hack added: "The Uxbridge result was heavily influenced by a big local issue. 

"Local issues matter. That's why I am listening to people week in and week out to truly understand the things that matter in the towns and villages of North West Leicestershire. 

"I am determined to ensure that local concerns are heard in Westminster.

"Finally, these by-elections came as a result of deepening chaos in the Conservative Party. The Selby, Somerton and Uxbridge MPs had the decency to do the right thing.  They resigned and let the people decide.  

"The voters in North West Leicestershire must be allowed to do the same at the earliest opportunity."
