Two Coalville sites have retained their coveted Green Flag Awards - putting them amongst the best in the UK.

North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) has received the prestigious award for Coalville Park and Broomleys Cemetery, both of which have been accredited previously.

The award is known as the international benchmark for parks, green spaces and cemeteries and is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that maintain them.

Councillor Michael Wyatt, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "It's a great achievement for our parks team to be acknowledged once again with the Green Flag Award for Coalville Park and Broomleys Cemetery.

"These awards reflect the hard work that goes into maintaining the grounds at both sites to create green spaces that are welcoming for the community.

"The team should be very proud of these achievements and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication, including the Friends of Coalville Park for their continuous efforts."

Keep Britain Tidy's Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Coalville Park in achieving a Green Flag Award.

"Coalville Park is a vital green space for the community in North West Leicestershire, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement."

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
