Organisers of the Heather Scarecrow Festival have not let the cancellation of this year's event stop them holding a fundraiser.

The annual event normally feature the village's residents making their own scarecrows and displaying them outside their houses for visitors to see.

But the Coronavirus crisis means that the festival, like so many other events, cannot happen in 2020.

The organisers are determined not to let their charities go unrecognised though.

They explained on a Facebook post: "Many charities and projects are struggling at present so we thought we would try and raise some money for a few local ones.

"'Give Away Your Guide' is an idea where you donate the £3 which you would have spent on entering a Scarecrow or as a visitor buying a Guide.

"All money raised from this fundraiser will distributed between the three causes, the refurbishment of Heather Church clock, Feed The Need Coalville and Twycross Zoo.

"We understand things are difficult for people but please consider donating as much as you can, and help us, help others."
