The developer of plans to bring a bowling alley and indoor golf facility to Coalville says it is not the end of plans for a brighter, more attractive town centre.

Gylo, the owner of Coalville's Belvoir Shopping Centre, has submitted plans for the new leisure complex and 28 apartments in Belvoir Road.

And it says further ambitious schemes will be announced later this year.

North West Leicestershire District Council is currently considering the latest plans - which emerged over the weekend - and involve a part-redevelopment of the Emporium nightclub.

The new bowling alley will have a striking design conceived by leading architects Corstorphine & Wright, and will be located on land to the rear of the shopping centre and adjacent to Coalville's Emporium.

It will include a six-lane facility at ground floor level, further space at first floor level intended for indoor golf and a restaurant with an attractive outdoor terrace on the third floor.

Linked to the development will be a new residential development of some 28 new town centre apartments and importantly a new access off Belvoir Road which will widen an existing servicing point and link through the Belvoir Centre's car park.

The new access will be achieved by a part-demolition of an extension to the former Co-op store on Belvoir Road.

The older, original Co-op building will be retained and improved with new shopfronts.

Gylo has already been behind the redevelopment of the Belvoir Shopping Centre.

Nick Harcus of Lathdale, the development consultants for Gylo, said, "We're delighted to finish the first phase improvement works to the shopping centre and now we are moving on with leisure-led revitalisation with a new bowling alley which I am sure will be very popular in Coalville.

"Since acquiring the Belvoir Shopping Centre in 2019 and despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gylo has taken active and positive moves to reverse long years of under-investment and also bring new vibrancy by attracting new footfall.

"Gylo particularly wanted to promote more night-time use of the town centre and these new leisure and restaurant uses will achieve that.

"This is not the end of our ambition for a brighter, more attractive Coalville town centre and we hope to announce further new plans later this year."
