The fostering team at Leicestershire County Council came to Snibston Country Park in Coalville to appeal for people to learn more about becoming foster carers.

It wants help with some of the almost 700 children and young people currently in care in the county.

The team is holding an in-person 'Find out more about Fostering' event next week at County Hall on Thursday, September 29, and aims to provide those who are interested in finding out more about fostering.

It will be a relaxed and informal opportunity for residents of Leicestershire to hear from the fostering team, some of the county council's foster carers, and a young person who was in care.

The doors open at 6.15pm for registration and the event is due to run from 6.30pm to 8pm.

The fostering team would love to welcome people from all walks of life, to help decide whether fostering is the right path for them.

Councillor Deborah Taylor, cabinet member for children and families said: "Fostering is a fantastic opportunity for people to help shape the life of a young person, and of course it is very rewarding.

"Whatever your gender, race, sexuality, living arrangements, age, and employment status, we want to hear from you.

"I'd like to thank all our amazing foster carers who already provide such loving homes to our young people, and, in advance, thank all the new foster carers who sign up and successfully join our fostering family."

Over the summer, the council's fostering recruitment team has been popping up their gazebo and stall at various locations around the county to give people the opportunity to learn more about fostering.

The fostering team has been to Ashby Steam Vintage Rally, Snibston Country Park,, Bradgate Park and Beacon Hill Country Park, among other venues, in attempt to find more potential foster carers
