Face masks are being made compulsory for students and staff in corridors and communal areas at Coalville's Castle Rock School from Monday (14 Sept).
The new policy follows a number of pupils and staff having to self-isolate until 18 September after coming into contact with a member of staff who tested positive for coronavirus.
Students in several classes and tutor groups were asked to stay at home on Monday (7 Sept) 'as a precautionary measure'.
In a letter to parents today (Weds), CEO of the Apollo Partnership Trust Julia Patrick, writes: "We are continually reviewing our procedures and processes in order to mitigate as best we possibly can against the spread of Covid-19.
"At the start of the term we sent all parents and carers a guide to the measures we have put in place.
"Face masks have up until now been optional, and we have welcomed any student who has chosen to wear a mask in school.
"After careful thought and review, and a further update of government guidance, we would like to inform you that from Monday, 14 September all staff and students will now be required to wear face masks when in corridors and communal areas eg designated year group spaces."
Ms Patrick goes on to say that the trust has purchased 'a large number' of masks which will be offered free of charge to students in receipt of free school meals.
"Thank you for your understanding and cooperation and for remaining positive in what has been a difficult start to the term," she adds.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Castle Rock School a fortnight ago, speaking to returning students about how important it was to come back to the classroom.
