North West Leicestershire District Council will again discuss the prospect of a new cinema for Coalville - but once more talks are to be behind closed doors.

The issue went before the council's Community Scrutiny Committee last month and council leader Richard Blunt said talks had to be held in private due to the sensitive nature of the discussions that had been taking place.

A number of councillors objected and suggested the item be deferred to a future meeting.

But Cllr Blunt said it had to be discussed with the exclusion of press and public.

However, it is now on the agenda for next Tuesday's council Cabinet meeting as 'A Cinema for Coalville - Update'.

Again, it will be debated in private and the council has given no indication of how much progress has been made and who is involved in any possible development of a cinema.

At the Scrutiny meeting last month, Cllr Blunt said the plans involved a 'huge amount of money' and there could be a 'legal challenge' if details were made public at this stage.

But in March, Cllr Blunt said that a new cinema was a 'No1 priority' for the town,

He said that 'confidential' talks had already taken place - but added that nothing would be built this year.
