North West Leicestershire District Council has responded to concerns from some members of the general public about the organisation of next month's return of the outdoor cinema in Coalville Park.

It says it has 'minimised the risk' surrounding the Cinema in the Park event - 'including the selection of our contractors'.

Last week, it was announced that the popular screenings would be back from August 12-23.

However, some of our readers responded on social media alleging that one of the organisers - The Big Events Co Leicester - had links to last year's event, which was a success.

But they pointed a finger at the Fleckney Group, which reportedly folded last September. following a three-day family festival in Market Harborough the previous month and has worked with North West Leicestershire District Council in previous years.

The Big Events Co Leicester has been appointed to the Cinema in the Park event, with North West Leicestershire Council saying the company represents the 'best value for money'.

According to its website, the Fleckney Group's managing director was Michael Preston.

The Big Events Co Leicester's listing with Companies House lists Karen Preston as its only director.

It is a private limited Company which was Incorporated on June 21 this year.

Paul Wheatley, Head of Economic Regeneration, issued a statement to Coalville Nub News and said: "After receiving such positive feedback last summer, we wanted to build on the success of Cinema in the Park and encourage people back into Coalville.

"When looking for specialist support for events, we invite companies to tender so we can compare quotes that provide the best value for money, and in this case, it was The Big Events Co.

"As the event organiser, we have robust procedures in place to minimise risks to the success of our events, including the selection of our contractors.

"Whilst we hope that the event runs as smoothly as possible, we know that things can go wrong from time to time and want to reassure customers that if any of the screenings are cancelled, a full refund will be issued."
