Council reacts to make sure flag is flown at half-mast from Coalville's Memorial Clock Tower

North West Leicestershire District Council has moved to make sure that Clock Tower in Coalville has the Union Flag flying at half-mast.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last Thursday, local residents pointed out there was no half-mast flag at the top of the tower in Memorial Square.
The explanation was that the pole on the tower was 'too short' for a flag to be flown at half-mast.
However, council officials moved quickly to correct this, and had found a solution to the problem by Friday evening.
The council posted a photo on social media (see above) on Friday evening showing the Clock Tower with a flag and lit in purple.
A message was also posted alongside which read: "Thank you to those who have been in touch with us to ask about a flag on the Memorial Clock Tower in Coalville.
"We've taken comments on board and now have a flag that's appropriate and safe to be flown at Memorial Tower at half-mast.
"Full size flags can only be flown safely and properly at full height from the tower.
"The Union Flag was flown at full-mast during the period of proclamation at the weekend and was then be lowered to half-mast until the day after the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
"This picture shows the flag flying at half-mast on the evening of Friday, September 9, with the clock faces glowing purple in tribute to Her Majesty the Queen."
