Community Group Coalville CAN is having a membership and inviting local residents to make a change.

Coalville CAN is a community co-operative aiming to be an ethical landlord and take buildings into community ownership in the Coalville area - as well as connecting and supporting community initiatives and local action.

It is is a Community Benefit Society, owned by its members and run as an enterprise with a social purpose - following the co-operative values and principles.

The group plan to deliver a surplus to be re-invested straight back into community led projects.

Coalville CAN is building an alternative way of doing things, putting land and opportunities directly in the hands of local people so they can make the difference they want to see, creating local jobs and nurturing local people into them.

The group says it will not happen overnight, the real difference that genuine community ownership can make and do will take over 15 years.

That is why Coalville CAN is putting things in place now.

Later this year you will be able to invest in a share offer - an ethical investment of cash to help to buy the CAN HQ in Memorial Square.

A lifetime membership is £25 - this gives you full membership and an equal vote with all other members, irrespective of the size of individual investments!

As a member you get:

Life time membership of Coalville CAN

• Know about and shape our future share offers to be able to invest in local buildings

• The option to be on the Board (anyone can put themselves forward at the AGM in October)

• An invitation to the AGM and to vote for the Board members of your choice

You can join by clicking HERE.
