Helen Harper - co-director of Kip McGrath in Coalville - has won an award for outstanding contribution to the education support company's network.

The award was made at Kip McGrath UK's National Conference in Birmingham last weekend.

Helen has written some new maths material for a new platform being launched by Kip McGrath and should be available at the Coalville Centre next year.

This is going to be used, not only in the company's 250 UK centres, but also in all Kip centres worldwide.

Helen told Coalville Nub News: "I had no idea that I was getting an award for it, so it was a complete surprise.

"The material is a part of the 'problems' programme.

"In maths it's important that students are able to tackle wordy questions.

"These problems are not always straightforward and require the student to identify what a question is asking for, and what skills they need, rather than just a straightforward 'do this'.

"The work I've done is to support the problems programme with 'skillbuilders'.

"If a student has struggled with a problem, these short tasks are designed to remind the student of the skills needed before they tackle the main question again.

"I was awarded the trophy by Storm McGrath, the CEO - the son of founder Kip McGrath."
