Coronavirus: Police Raid Hugglescote Pub After Landlord Defies Ban

Police had to warn a Hugglescote pub landlord who defied a Government order to close due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.

The un-named pub was still doing business on Saturday despite all UK pubs being told to shut the previous evening.

Leicestershire Police have confirmed they were called out after receiving reports that a pub was still trading in the area and open for business.

Officers went to the venue and told people to leave.

Government legislation introduced last week states that pubs must close under the Health Protection Regulations 2020.

Pubs all over the country shut their doors on Friday evening and cannot open again until further notice.

The Government said on Friday that pubs, nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, gyms and leisure centres were told to close "as soon as they reasonably can".

But the Hugglescote pub was still open the following day and a Leicestershire Police spokesman told Coalville Nub News: "On Saturday (21 March) we received a report of a pub trading in Hugglescote.

"Officers attended and people at the pub left the premises.

"The landlord of the pub was spoken to and reminded of the legislation."
