Emergency services attended Castle Rock School on Tuesday after pupils were reported to have 'ingested' sulphate crystals.

Police and ambulance services were on the scene at the Meadow Lane school following the incident.

But the school later issued a letter to parents saying that 'all protocols and procedures were followed to ensure no one was harmed'.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: "It was reported that a group of pupils had ingested a substance - believed to be sulphate crystals.

"Officers attended and the pupils were taken to hospital as a precaution. They have since been discharged.

"No criminal offences have been identified and no further action will be taken."

Head of School Duncan Baldwin issued a message to parents that evening.

It read: "Dear Parents/Carers,

"We would like to reassure you that the presence of the emergency services on site this afternoon were as a safety precaution, following a very small group of students coming in to contact with a compound that was used in a required GCSE science experiment.

"All protocols and procedures were followed to ensure no one was harmed. Kind regards, Duncan Baldwin."
