Police moved a group of people and their vehicles from Scotlands Playing Fields in Coalville after they gained access to the site on Sunday night.

One onlooker, who asked not to be named, told Coalville Nub News they saw 'torches and tools' used on the gate to the Scotlands field in Forest Road.

And the police's quick response to the incident has been praised.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: "Shortly before 10.30pm on Sunday, we received a report that a group of people had taken vehicles onto Scotlands Playing Fields in Coalville after gaining access to the site.

"Officers went to the playing fields and spoke to the group.

"They were advised to leave and did so at their own accord."

A witness said as many as four police cars and a van turned up to deal with the group.

The witness said: "There was a large motor home and a van towing a large caravan at the entrance gate.

"Two people got out of the motor home and were at the gate with torches and some sort of tool.

"They managed to get through the gates and enter the car park.

"Four police cars and a van arrived, they were able to persuade the vehicles to leave and then secure the site.

"If the police hadn't responded so quickly and were able to move them on, then we'd have been waking up to a different scene this morning on the Scotlands."
