Coalville MP Andrew Bridgen was interrupted by a heckler on national TV last night (Monday) as he described the latest revelations about Boris Johnson as 'career-ending'.

Mr Bridgen was speaking to Newsnight host Faisal Islam about his letter of no confidence in the Prime Minister.

Speaking live from College Green in Westminster, the MP for North West Leicestershire said former aide Dominic Cummings' claims will have to be investigated by Sue Gray, and said it's "probably career-ending" if the Prime Minister is found to have been not telling the truth to Parliament.

It follows Cummings' latest claims that Johnson "lied to parliament" when he said he thought the "bring your own booze" get-together in May 2020 was a "work event".

Mr Bridgen said: "Going public with my letter of no confidence has attracted emails from around the country.

"I had about 600 on Thursday, 1,000 on Saturday. The overwhelming majority said the Prime Minister should consider his position.

"It's the most emails I've ever had, I can't speak for other MPs. I'm sure their inbox is rather similar.

"The worrying events that Dominic Cummings' recollection of the party on May 20, directly contradicts the statement that Boris Johnson gave to Parliament last week.

"Clearly, Sue Gray has to question all the witnesses that are available, get to the truth, and if it transpires that the Prime Minister has misled Parliament, then that's a very serious matter and probably career-ending.

"I don't think she's got any choice but to call Dominic Cummings as a witness, but also call any witnesses he's willing to bring forwards to give their version of events.

Mr Bridgen compared the Government's alleged "red meat" offerings, such as scrapping the TV licence fee, to being offered "Sweets you've already had in your pocket and you've already been promised them".

But the interview was constantly interrupted by Westminster protestor Steve Bray who held up signs that read: "Toxic Tories destroying our nation" and "Save our Democracy".

On the other side the signs read: "Get your Johnson out of our democracy!" and "A crock of s***".

"Lies, lies, lies", Bray could be heard saying in the background.

It was highlighted that the number of MPs who have gone public with their letters is still in single figures, nowhere near the 54 letters needed to trigger a no-confidence vote.

"I understand you have a bit of a distraction down there on College Green," Islam said.

Mr Bridgen responded: "The village idiot is out."

But Bray replied: "No, the village idiot is in front of the camera".

After the interview Bray tweeted: "I hope you all enjoyed my cameo on Newsnight with Bridgen."

Mr Bridgen tweeted this morning (Tuesday): "Last night as I was appearing on BBC Newsnight, I was heckled by full time protestor Steve Bray.

"I disagree with pretty much everything he says, and how he says it, but the right to protest is an important one, and it's a right protected by the PCSC Bill."
