Coalville fire crew came to the rescue to help a donkey who had become stuck in the mud in Ibstock.

The animal, named Joey, had got bogged down on a bridle path close to Victoria Road in Ibstock on Thursday morning.

Leicestershire Live reported that Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the animal was stuck up to his stomach in mud and a vet had to sedate him with the owner close by.

They then had to work in 'arduous conditions' and dig around the donkey until he could be pulled clear of the mud and checked by the vet.

Coalville firefighters were assisted by a technical rescue team from Leicester's Southern fire station and the animal was able to be pulled clear of the mud.

A tweet from Coalville fire station read: "Good work and great teamwork by crews from Coalville and Southern to release Joey the donkey from mud this morning.

"A very happy and safe conclusion in arduous conditions."
