Highways England says that traffic is at a standstill on the M1 South near to the Coalville turnoff.

A collision has happened on the M1 south between J23 and J22.

Castle Donington Fire Service reported that two people had to be extracted by the fire services and were taken to hospital.

Traffic officers, East Midlands Ambulance Service, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue were all heading to the scene shortly after 9pm on Sunday evening.

UPDATE: Leicestershire Police say this stretch of the motorway will be closed and drivers are urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route,
