North West Leicestershire District Council is looking for more "binmen".

An advert has been placed inviting applications for the roles as refuse and recycling collectors.

But the positions are only until the end of May.

The council says: "We have temporary work available as a recycling and refuse loader until the end of May, 37 hours per week, Tuesday - Friday. No experience needed."

The job advert says that you have to show 'fitness and physical attributes to meet the manual demands of the role."

But it also lists the standards expected from refuse collectors in the region - and gives an insight into a vital job.

The Council says that applicants must:

  • Be responsible for their actions
  • Ensure containers are returned to the customer as they are supposed to be
  • Ensure any spillages are picked up
  • Ensure safe operating practices are adhered to
  • Ensure the daily round assigned is completed
  • To help other crews complete their rounds when requested
  • To assist the Street Cleansing Team when requested
  • To record and report any incidents to the Crew Leader (Driver) such as waste not presented
But it also says there are 'additional responsibilities'.
  • To always see the service through the eyes of the customer and make suggestions for improvement where appropriate
  • To wear all personal protective equipment necessary to the task
  • To maintain safe working practices at all times, and report any accidents, hazards or near

misses immediately

  • To help build pride, passion and reputation for NWLDC
  • To constantly challenge self-performance and seek to find improvements
  • To carry out duties efficiently and effectively
  • To participate in the Council's appraisal scheme and to undertake any necessary training and development as identified for the job role
  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks appropriate to the grading of the post and as required by the Team Manager.
  • To promote the Council's Equality and Diversity Policy to ensure service provision and employment practices are non-discriminatory.
  • To assist in the event of a civil emergency in any way as instructed.
Interested applicants have been asked to email [email protected] with their CV.
