Coalville CAN to discuss future of town's Old Market Building
Do you love it or hate it? Will you think 'Eye Sore or Iconic Building' at the end of this session?
The Connecting Coalville Zoom Room is inviting people on Monday, at 7pm, to hear Kickstarter Aleks and members of Coalville CAN group, share their thoughts, research and ideas on Coalville Market!
You can be the first to see the Old Market Building like you have never seen before.
Full details can be found HERE.
The group will be discussing what will its future be when it closes in July?
Could it become a multi purpose events venue enabling local people with enterprising ideas to take ownership and offer events and activities for the whole community?
The Council looks after this building on behalf of the community and have done so since it was built in1975.
A once thriving space, it has more recently become a little sad and neglected.
The Council has built a new indoor market which will open in the summer, meaning the existing market building will no longer be needed.
Currently there are no firm plans for what it could become.
Coalville CAN is putting a proposal to the Council for community ownership.
We want to find out what activities people might want to see and, more importantly, what activities they would be interested in enough to get involved.
We have asked Aleks, local student architect to come up with some ideas to get us thinking and the results of his research might surprise you.
After the presentation, the session will be open for questions and comments and an online survey will be shared so everyone can contribute their ideas into the activities that they would like to see/get involved in inside the space.
There will also be digital option to share ideas using the world of Minecraft.
If you are a minecrafter or know someone that is please share with them and we can send a link to download the file!
The session will be recorded to share afterwards.
