Armed police called to Coalville as man is arrested on suspicion of 'threats to kill'

A man was arrested after armed police were called to the Bardon Road area of Coalville yesterday (Friday) following reports that someone was in possession of a bladed weapon.

The initial response was that there were concerns about the welfare of the man, 56.

But when police arrived in the area, the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and threats to kill.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "A 56-year-old man was arrested in the Bardon Road area of Coalville, around 5.20pm yesterday (Friday 8 November) after officers were called to the area following concerns about the welfare of the man.

"It was reported that the man may be in possession of a bladed weapon.

"In the interests of officer and public safety the armed response team were deployed to the scene.

"The man was subsequently located and arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article, threats to kill and failing to provide a sample. He remains in police custody.

"One officer was treated for a minor cut to his hand – no other reported injuries."
