Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service says that 'animals died' and were left homeless by last week's wildfire on Bardon Hill.

Crews fought flames last Thursday night near Bardon Quarry - and had a presence for some days after in case any fires started again.

But the county fire brigade posted an update on social media over the weekend - as well as a video of what was left in the area following the fire.

It said: "This is the devastation left behind by Thursday's fire at Bardon Hill quarry.

"Animals have lost their homes and some have lost their lives."

LFRS also repeated its message to the public about avoiding a repeat after days of sudden warm weather.

The post added: "Most of these fires are caused by human activity and can be prevented."

"Avoid burning on windy days.

"Keep fires small and have extinguishing information with you.

"Discard cigarettes and BBQs safely.

"Never leave a fire unattended.

"Avoid burning waste, campfires and using BBQs near dry grassland."
