Two Teenagers have been arrested after a reported stabbing in Whitwick on Wednesday night.

Police were called to St Bernard's Road at around 7.20pm and found a man in his 30's who had suffered 'slash wounds'.

The teenagers fled the scene and were later found in Coleorton where they were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

They remain in custody while police carry out further enquiries.

The man was then taken to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment to his injuries.

Social media reports on the Spotted Whitwick site suggested a police helicopter was used in the search for the suspects and that a police cordon was set up in St Bernard's Road following the incident.

One local posted that as many as nine police cars were sent to the scene.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said on Thursday morning: "At around 7.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 22 April) police were called to St Bernard's Road in Whitwick, following a report a person had been stabbed.

"It was reported the suspects had left the area on foot.

"Officers attended and found the victim, a man in his 30s, had sustained slash wounds.

"He was taken to the Queens Medical Centre for treatment.

"A search of the area was carried out and two teenagers, aged 17 and 16, were arrested in Coleorton on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

"They remain in custody and enquiries are ongoing."
