Building Surveyor

Here at North West Leicestershire District Council, we are investing in our communities, and the homes of our council tenants are key to that. This new Building Surveyor role goes beyond the technical.

We're looking for someone who brings a blend of building expertise, planning know-how and a genuine commitment to customer engagement.

We're working not just on our tenants' homes; we are working with our tenants. We want to empower and educate our tenants as we make their homes more energy efficient, safe and a place they call home and thrive and enjoy living in.

About the Role You will be the senior professional and technical advisor within the Responsive Repairs, Voids, and Minor Works Team, leading on defect diagnosis and resolution (including damp and mould) through accurate surveying, scoping, and reporting, while supporting the preparation of specifications and contract documents to ensure the effective delivery of the work to the council's domestically rented portfolio in line with consumer standards.

Your day could include:

• Undertaking condition surveys and diagnostic inspections.

• Preparing specifications, tender documents, and managing contracts from start to finish.

• Engaging with tenants and leaseholders to explain works, gather feedback, and ensure satisfaction.

• Hosting workshops to educate staff, tenants, and elected members.

About You You're an experienced professional in the housing or construction sector, with a strong grasp of building pathology, contract management, and housing standards.

You'll be comfortable working independently, taking initiative, and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment. We're particularly interested in people who are:

• Confident in engaging with residents and stakeholders

• Skilled in both technical surveying and project delivery

• Passionate about housing sustainability and improving people's lives

• Experienced in local authority or social housing settings (desirable but not essential) Interested...?
