Central Control (Lifeline) Operator (Casual)

Are you seeking evening or night work? Can you be available at short notice? Are you confident working independently?

If so, keep reading — this opportunity might be perfect for you. Central Control is a vital part of the Council's Customer Service team, operating a 24/7, 365-day-a-year helpline for residents across the district.

We provide essential support through our telecare community alarm system, offering peace of mind to elderly and vulnerable individuals who may need urgent assistance.

Depending on the situation, we coordinate help from named contacts or the emergency services.

The team also handles the Council's out-of-hours emergency calls — from urgent housing repairs and reports of dangerous structures by the Police to major incidents like fires or floods.

We're looking for someone who enjoys speaking with people over the phone and can offer calm, compassionate reassurance - even in challenging or distressing situations. Our dedicated, office-based team works on a shift pattern, and we're now looking to expand our casual bank staff.

This role is ideal for someone flexible and reliable, who can step in to cover shifts during staff absences, including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

If you're flexible, empathetic, and ready to make a real difference in your community, we'd love to hear from you. *Successful applicant must undertake a basic DBS check
