Ellis Hopkins, from Coalville, is set to become the first female from the traveller community to fight as a professional boxer.

Ellis is 19-years-old and has already represented England and competed at the international England Box Cup.

Her father Elvis Hopkins runs the boxing gym in Leicester where she trains, said: "We have one goal, that's world champion."

Ellis said her mum had a dance school but: "Kicked me out for fighting and sent me to the boxing gym with my dad and I never left".

Last month, Ellis signed to MTK Global, billed as the word's foremost boxer management company.

MTK said at the time that Ellis has had an extremely successful amateur career, representing England for a number of years and winning numerous accolades such as the Youth National Championship and a Tri-Nations Silver medal in 2017.

She is also a 10-time Box Cup champion, and said: "I'm proud to sign with MTK Global. I've been boxing since I can remember, and I don't think I've left the gym for the last 10 years.

"I've decided to turn professional as I think my style will suit it better than the amateurs. I've always wanted to turn professional and going to the Olympics has never been the dream, being a unified world champion is the dream."

Promoter Lee Eaton added: "We're thrilled to welcome Ellis to the team. She achieved a lot as an amateur and we're looking forward to seeing what she is capable of in the professional ranks.

"Ellis has a huge fan base in Leicester and is a massive ticket seller, so we're hoping this leads to a #MTKFightNight event in Leicester at some point in the near future.

"She's now part of a booming women's scene in boxing at the moment and joins big names like Chantelle Cameron and Tasha Jonas at MTK Global, so we can't wait for her to get started."
