Coalville Town were forced to settle for a playoff match against Rushall Olympic this Wednesday as they failed to score enough goals to claim automatic promotion to the National League North.

The Ravens went into today's match against Stourbridge level on points with Southern Premier League Central leaders Tamworth - but crucially trailing by two goals.

In front of a packed Owen Street, Coalville got off to the best possible start in their pursuit of a big score line, with Tim Berridge slotting home after just 15 seconds, as he latched onto a poor clearance on the edge of the Stourbridge box.

The early goal saw Coalville temporarily move to the top of the table, but that would be short-lived as Tamworth eventually cruised past Redditch with a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Still needing more goals, George Wilson made it two for the Ravens midway through the first half when he smashed the ball into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

The hosts continued to siege the Stourbridge goal, with Berridge denied by keeper Charles Price in a one-on-one and Alexander Dean having a shot from just inside the box deflected away.

Then on the cusp of half time Thomas McGlinchey cut in from the right before curling the ball onto the bar, only for Billy Kee to head home from point blank range for three.

After the restart Coalville looked to extend their advantage, but when Eliot Putman brought Jaiden White down in the box for a penalty on 53 minutes, Obinna Anaebonam slotted home from 12 yards for the Glassboys.

The goal for the visitors took the wind out of Coalville's sails and they struggled to create much more in the second half.

A late flurry saw Luke Shaw and Tendai Chitiza both go close, but the game finished 3-1 and saw Coalville resigned to fight through the playoffs.
