Plans for what is described as a Gypsy/Traveller site in Whitwick have been submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council.

The site, at 36 Brooks Lane, would have eight touring caravan pitches if the proposal gets the go-ahead.

An application to the council, from Mr Michael Doran, was submitted at the end of August - but only validated a week ago.

As well as the eight pitches, there would be a retention of one static caravan and six welfare buildings to include two toilets, two storerooms and two day rooms.

There would also be retention of associated works to include hardstanding and parking spaces.

The application is accompanied by a cover letter from the scheme's Barlestone-based agent, Mr Alec Statham, which confirms the plans.

The National Forest Company has responded to the application this week, saying: "The site area specified on the application form is unclear.

"However, it appears that the site is below the area requiring National Forest planting."
