A number of archive films about Coalville have been released as part of the BBC's Rewind website.
Seven news clips in all - from 1963 to the present day - are now free to view on the site.
They provide a fascinating lookback at the town and mining in the area - from being its main industry to disappearing completely.
The oldest item goes back 59 years and is presented by former international athlete Chris Brasher.
He reports on the decision by the council to make it a smokeless town in line with government policy to improve the air quality of Coalville.
The item includes an account of Coalville's history and future and features interviews with local people about the council's decision.
The clip features a 'Mr Price' and 'Councillor Lindsey'.
A 1974 clip is about the parliamentary constituency of Bosworth, which incorporated Hinckley and Coalville, and how the miners' strike would affect the way locals vote in the upcoming General Election.
It says the region had been 'traditionally Labour', but in the last election, the Conservatives had won by a narrow majority.
With the upcoming 1974 election approaching, this report interviews locals with different attitudes on the miners strike and if that will affect their vote.
The people in this clip are:
• Adam Butler
• Martyn Solman
• Morris Gordan
Another item from 1982 is a Newsnight clip with Vincent Hanna getting the views of miners in Coalville to a proposed miners' strike.
Miners in Leicestershire faced pressure from both sides on the ballot and strikes.
Interviewed in this clip are:
• Aubrey Peace
• Derek Howe
• Paul Douglas
A 1992 East Midlands Today clip features Leicestershire's biggest new industry and science museum to be opened in the UK for 50 years.
Snibston Discovery Park is on the site of the old colliery near Coalville.
The pit shut in 1986 and the site had been redeveloped into a museum which also told the story of the county's industrial past.
There is an interview with Bob York (ex-miner) and Heather Broughton (Assistant Director, Snibston Discovery Park). The reporter is John Hemmingway.
