A mural depicting Coalville's industrial heritage has been unveiled at the town's Amazon fulfilment centre.

Simon 'Si' Bennett, known as Retro Vandal, painted the huge mural on one of the main walls in the centre.

It celebrates Coalville's historical figures, sights and landmarks.

Simon, who lives in Coalville, included Charnwood Forest, the Clocktower and other figures, sights and landmarks from the area's industrial history.

The artwork was unveiled by Councillor Keith Merrie MBE and the site's General Manager, Tracey Foster.

Cllr Keith Merrie MBE said: "This mural is a fantastic representation of the area, our history, and all the better that it has been created by a local artist for Amazon who have become such an important part of our community."

Speaking at the unveiling of the mural, Tracey added: "The mural has become a big talking point for the team, so many of whom are proud of their region and delighted to see it celebrated in this way."

The mural, including the lettering, was hand-painted and took a week to design and a week to paint.

Simon added: "Coalville is such a fantastic place with so many inspiring locations, landmarks and a rich industrial background to celebrate.

"The team at Amazon were incredibly helpful and encouraging, and it was a pleasure to create this artwork for them. I hope they all enjoy it."

Cllr Merrie added on social media: "Great to be invited as a guest to the Amazon Fulfilment Centre in Ellistown for the commissioning of the wall art work in reception.

"Local Coalville artist Simon Bennett #theretrovandal has created a historical masterpiece.

"Loads of historical links to Ellistown, Coalville and Leicestershire.

"He is very talented. Great local employer, listens to staff feedback and gets local artist to do a stunning piece of work."
