Van driver arrested after collision near Coalville leaves motorcyclist in hospital with serious injuries

A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run collision with a van near Coalville on Monday night.

Officers were called at 9.30pm to the A511 at Sinope between the junction of Flagstaff Island, near Ashby, and The Moorlands.

Leicestershire Police report that the collision involved a white Ford Transit van and a blue Yamaha motorcycle.

East Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene.

The motorcyclist, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he currently remains with serious injuries.

The driver of the van was reported to have left the scene following the collision.

A 24-year-old man, of Nottingham, has since been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop at a road traffic collision. He has since been released under investigation.

The A511 was closed to traffic at the time between Coalville and Ashby.

Officers are appealing to anyone with any information in relation to the collision to make contact.

Detective Constable Charlotte Wright, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

"As part of our enquiries, we are appealing to anyone with any information to make contact. Please think back to if you were in the area yesterday evening. Did you witness the collision? Or did you see either of the vehicles beforehand? Do you have any dashcam footage from the area which could help us in our enquiries?

"If you have any information, and have not yet spoken to police, please get in touch."
